“When I created the first edition of Where Should We Begin? A Game of Stories in 2021, we were grappling with social atrophy and trying our best to return to life as usual. Nearly three years later, I knew this second edition had to be just as mobile as we are now.” —Esther Perel
Bring Esther Into Your Home
Since creating the first edition in 2021, Esther has played the game with thousands of people around the world. The story cards in this second edition include new questions and prompts inspired by those conversations. One of her favorites: If cities were people, who would be your lover, your boyfriend/girlfriend, and your lifelong partner? (Esther’s answers: “My lover is Paris or Rio. My boyfriend is Berlin. My lifelong partner is New York.”)
A Game of Stories
Just like in the first edition, there are no winners or losers—instead, the game is designed for friends, family, coworkers, and lovers to connect around the power of storytelling. Use the story cards to go deeper, have new conversations, find common ground, and delight in what makes us each unique.
Connection on the Go
With smaller packaging and revised instructions for easier gameplay, this second edition is designed to go wherever stories are told: date nights at your favorite restaurant, holidays at your relatives’, company get-togethers, family road trips, and more. Tailor the rules and cards to fit whatever situation and group you’re in.
Just as an amazing connection is about sharing, listening, risk, laughter, and discovery, so too is a great game. Let the prompts guide you and the story cards inspire you to share the stories you rarely tell.
FAQ
There are a number of different versions of the rules so that you can play with lovers, friends, at dinner parties, or for easier gameplay as a beginner.
The full game involves two elements - Story Cards and the Dice.
Here's what a turn might look like:
Each player draws Story Cards and holds them.
Then, the first Storyteller rolls the dice.
The dice prompt is a mood or a direction - what direction will my story go? (for example, Share A Secret).
Then, each player puts a Story Card on the table face down. These cards are the first line of your story (for example, My Most Irrational Fear...).
The Storyteller then picks up the cards on the table, shuffles them, and reads them aloud before deciding which one to use to tell their story.
Then, the storyteller tells their story...
